GSIS: Over P27B in Microloans Disbursed for Government Employees

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has released P27.29 billion in microloans to 463,608 active government employees through its Ginhawa Go Program, seeking to provide a quick, affordable alternative to informal lenders, the state pension fund said Friday. The reported microloan disbursements were recorded from October 24, 2024, to July 28, 2026. Formerly known as Ginhawa Lite, the initiative was relaunched in February 2026 as Ginhawa Go and described by the GSIS as a "loan-on-the-go" program. "Ginhawa Go answers a basic need for our members: quick, dignified access to credit that will not push them toward informal lenders," GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said in a statement. "The volume moving through this program tells us it is filling a gap our members needed filled," he added. Ginhawa Go allows eligible members to borrow from P1,000 to P50,000 at a 6% interest rate, with repayment terms ranging from 30 days to 24 months depending on the principal. Applicants submit their requests via the GSIS Touch mobile app. The loan includes Loan Redemption Insurance, which settles any outstanding balance if the borrower dies, shielding their family from financial liability. — VDV, GMA News
