ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meet with Human Rights Commission, Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Committee

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – July 21, 2026 – The ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, with Cambodia presiding as Chair, convened today, featuring significant dialogues with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) and the Commission on the Southeast Asia Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone. The meetings underscored Cambodia's commitment to fostering regional cooperation and advancing human rights within the ASEAN framework. Discussions focused on the progress of the ASEAN Community Vision, particularly concerning human rights protection and the maintenance of regional peace and stability. Simultaneously, the meeting with the NWFZ Commission addressed strengthening the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and the Southeast Asia Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty (Bangkok Treaty), aiming to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the region.
