Cambodia Celebrates National Tree Planting Day with 220 Saplings to Boost Green Cover

The Cambodian Red Cross Society's Preah Vihear branch organized a campaign to plant 220 saplings of valuable tree species to celebrate the "National Tree Planting Day" on July 9. The activity, held under the meaningful theme "Planting Trees is a Mission to Create Green Cover," took place at the Angkor Tret Primary School in Angkor Tret village, Angkor Tret commune, Svay Antor district, Preah Vihear province. The campaign was led by H.E. Sok Peng, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial Branch Committee, with participation from branch operational teams, district sub-branch deputy chiefs, contract staff, commune Red Cross members, village volunteers, and representatives from various ministries including Environment, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Water Resources and Meteorology, Rural Development, Public Works and Transport, Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation, and the Provincial Department of Forestry Administration. H.E. Sok Peng stated that the main objective of planting these saplings is not only to increase green cover and mitigate climate change but also to transform the local landscape into a more beautiful one and provide benefits to the community in the future. The planted species, including Beng (100 trees), Thnung (50 trees), Tual (50 trees), and Kokir (20 trees), are all valuable trees that offer long-term benefits for both the environment and aesthetics. He further emphasized that planting trees today serves to instill a spirit of loving nature among the youth and all citizens. He likened each tree to a life, stressing that the "mission to create green cover" does not end with planting but requires collective effort in regular care, weeding, and watering to ensure these 220 saplings grow into cool, refreshing shade.
