Cambodia Strengthens Crackdown on Tech Scams, Tightens Resident Management

In Banteay Meanchey province, northwestern Cambodia, bordering Thailand, Governor Oum Ratry has demonstrated a firm stance against cyber fraud, ordering the strict enforcement of relevant laws. During a dissemination meeting on the Law on Combating Tech Scams and Sub-decree No. 03 on Security and Safety Management of Residential Areas, held in Phnom Srok district on July 21, 2026, the governor emphasized that "no leniency or negligence will be tolerated for any illegal act." The meeting focused particularly on the prevention and suppression of technology-based crimes. The governor urged local authorities, police, and civil defense officials to conduct in-depth awareness campaigns reaching every household. Furthermore, he ordered that statistics of individuals temporarily residing in guesthouses and rental apartments within the district be thoroughly managed by the authorities. This reflects a strong will to enforce the law without exception and not tolerate any illegal activities within their jurisdiction. Concurrently, the governor appealed to all guesthouse and rental property owners to cooperate closely with the authorities. He urged them to promptly report and provide information to the authorities if they detect or suspect any suspicious activities at their premises, thereby contributing to the maintenance of security and order for the entire community. This move indicates the government's heightened vigilance against the increasing trend of cyber fraud in Cambodia and the associated risks of illegal immigrants and criminals hiding. Particularly in Banteay Meanchey province, situated in a border area, such enhanced management is deemed essential for both maintaining security and stabilizing economic activities.
