Vietnam Pursues Multifaceted Digital Transformation Initiatives

Vietnam is advancing multifaceted initiatives to drive national digital transformation. Grab Vietnam, a leading ride-hailing platform, has launched "Grab Cyclo," the country's first digital cyclo service in the central city of Hue, introducing a new mode of transportation. In terms of infrastructure, Ho Chi Minh City plans a significant expansion of charging stations and battery-swap cabinets by the end of the year, aiming for 100 charging stations and 20,000 swap cabinets by the end of 2026. This is a crucial step towards promoting the adoption and utilization of electric vehicles (EVs). Workforce development focuses on advanced skills such as managing digital transformation processes, developing digital learning environments, and engaging educational and administrative staff, in addition to IT skills. However, developing specific and effective solutions to ensure all citizens can benefit from digital transformation remains a challenge. At the local level, Ca Mau province is implementing a 100-day campaign to address bottlenecks in digital transformation and improve public services, with a particular focus on online administrative procedures, digital data, and digital infrastructure. Alongside these digitalization efforts, Vietnam recognizes the importance of protecting citizens' personal information. The Public Security Department of Quang Ninh province has warned individuals, businesses, and organizations against publicly disclosing or providing personal information and bank account details on social media, urging compliance with regulations on customer data protection. Furthermore, Vietnam is also enhancing international cooperation, such as the deployment of PAUL systems for disaster relief. This indicates the potential for cooperation that extends beyond experience exchange to deliver direct benefits to local communities. Advancements are also being made in the application of DNA identification technology in forensics, with projects accelerating to store DNA samples of relatives for future use by institutions like the Military Institute of Forensic Medicine under the Ministry of National Defence. These endeavors highlight Vietnam's positioning of digitalization as a key pillar for national development, aiming to improve citizens' lives and strengthen engagement with the international community.
