A workshop titled "Towards the Socio-Economic Development of Migrant Workers and Their Families through Decent Migration," organized by the Ministry of Labour, was held on Wednesday morning at the Grand Amara Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. Chairman of the Committee for the Supervision of Overseas Employment, Union Minister for Labour U Khin Maung Soe, attended the workshop and delivered the opening address. Union Minister U Khin Maung Soe stated that the workshop was organized with the aim of identifying issues such as irregular migration, exploitation, and lack of systematic family reunification faced by those going abroad for work, in order to promote the socio-economic development of migrant workers and their families, and to collaboratively coordinate and find solutions in the national interest. He further noted that benefits such as improved socio-economic conditions for workers and their families through access to relevant skills, practical expertise, knowledge and experience, fair income, and employment opportunities in destination countries, as well as an increase in the nation's GDP through remittances, can be achieved. Afterward, Union Minister U Khin Maung Soe and responsible officials presented certificates of honor to ten licensed overseas employment agencies that have made the best efforts to secure remittances, which contribute to the economic development of the nation. Subsequently, the Union Minister and officials toured and viewed exhibition displays showcasing activities related to migrant worker affairs, worker protection measures undertaken by labor attachés in various countries, and documentary photos of skilled workers being trained and sent abroad from vocational training schools. In the afternoon, the workshop continued with discussions and exchanges by experts in their respective fields on topics including preventing the loss of human resources and ensuring safe migration, producing skilled workers and promoting domestic and foreign labor markets and promoting the socio-economic development of migrant workers' families through remittances.
