LTO Penalizes 88 Vehicle Dealers for Delayed Registration

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday said it has penalized 88 motorcycle and car dealers for failing to follow the prescribed timelines in the processing and release of official receipts or certificates of registration (ORs/CRs) and license plates. In a statement, the LTO said that 37 dealers were fined while 39 others faced other measures. Several other dealers were also found to have delayed registration processes. The intensified supervision of dealerships by the LTO aims to address the issue where vehicle buyers face prolonged waits for their registration documents and license plates after purchasing a new vehicle. Previously, reports indicated that some dealerships took an extended period to provide these essential items, leading to customer dissatisfaction. The LTO reiterated that dealerships are obligated to hand over all registration-related documents and license plates to customers within the period stipulated in their sales contracts. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in further administrative sanctions and penalties. The delay in vehicle registration in the Philippines has been a significant concern for buyers, especially with the expansion of the new car market. The LTO's firm stance is expected to enhance market transparency and efficiency, ultimately protecting consumer rights.
