Cambodia Holds Buddhist Ceremony in Romenh Haek District, Minister Donates Offerings to Monks

In Romenh Haek district, Svay Rieng province, Cambodia, Minister of Interior Sok Sokhen, who also serves as Deputy Head of the Government Working Group for Svay Rieng Province and Head of the Government Working Group for Romenh Haek District, along with his wife, presented alms and numerous offerings to the monks residing in 53 pagodas within the district for their three-month Vassa retreat. The ceremony took place on August 1, 2026, at Doung Pagoda in Doung commune, Romenh Haek district. During the devout ceremony, Minister Sok Sokhen, his wife, and ministry leaders offered incense, flowers, and offerings to the Buddha statue, commemorating the virtues of the Triple Gem. They also prayed for the merit to be granted to departed relatives and, especially, to the heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. The Minister and all attendees paid respects to the spirits of the fallen soldiers, expressing deep gratitude and remembrance for their immense sacrifices. On this occasion, Minister Sok Sokhen delivered remarks to the attendees, conveying greetings from Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia; Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia; and Samdech Kittisangnhachariya Dr. Men Sam An, Senior Advisor to His Majesty the King of the Kingdom of Cambodia. He inquired about the well-being of the elderly and citizens present. Concurrently, the Minister discussed the international situation, policies, and development in all sectors, both secular and religious. He also addressed the situation in the Cambodia-Thailand border region and urged citizens to continue trusting the leadership of the Cambodian government in protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Furthermore, the Minister highlighted the progress of the Buddhist sector in Romenh Haek district, noting that there are currently 53 pagodas (including one newly established pagoda, 'Dharmapouthi Maha Vihar') with a total of 350 resident monks. The district also boasts seven ancient pagodas with long histories, notably Kranyoung Pagoda, which is 943 years old, and three pagodas designated as tourist destinations.
