Sun PhuQuoc Airways Introduces First A330, Boosting International Network

Sun PhuQuoc Airways has taken a significant step in Vietnam's aviation sector by introducing its first Airbus A330 aircraft. This marks a key part of the airline's expansion plan to operate an eight-wide-body aircraft fleet, with the A330 set to become a crucial asset for broadening its international network. This fleet expansion is closely linked to the development of Phu Quoc International Airport, the gateway to Phu Quoc Island. Sun Group is investing approximately 500 billion VND (around $20 million USD) to upgrade Terminal 1 (T1) of the airport, aiming to increase its annual passenger handling capacity to about 9 million. This infrastructure development is designed to meet growing international travel demand and further boost tourism to the island. Sun PhuQuoc Airways has already garnered recognition for its service quality, having been named Asia's Best Leisure Airline 2026 at the Skytrax World Airline Awards. With the introduction of the A330, the airline plans to expand its long-haul network, strengthening connectivity with more countries. The airline has already opened its fourth international route, further enhancing its role in connecting Phu Quoc with the world. Under Vietnam's one-party system, the government prioritizes economic growth, with investments in tourism and aviation infrastructure being crucial for foreign exchange earnings and job creation. While maintaining a geopolitical balance with China, Vietnam also fosters economic ties. The expansion of air routes is expected to contribute to regional economic revitalization and likely receive government support.
