Cambodian PM Urges Thailand to Respect Border Agreement

On the occasion of the International Day of Peace on September 20, 2026, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has called on Thailand to respect the agreements reached regarding border issues between the two countries and to pursue peaceful resolution based on international law. This appeal aims to reduce tensions along the border, build trust, and foster peaceful coexistence between the peoples of both nations. Prime Minister Hun Manet affirmed that the Cambodian government will continue to adhere to the fundamental principles of peace, respect for sovereignty, and peaceful dispute resolution in accordance with international law. He emphasized a commitment to prioritizing the peace of the people and sustainable, inclusive socio-economic development over the use of force. According to the Prime Minister, Cambodia has learned from the painful experiences of past wars and the impacts of recent infringements on its sovereignty, leading to a deeper understanding of the inestimable value of peace, the broad opportunities it creates, and its fragility. He stressed the imperative to collectively preserve and protect peace. Furthermore, Prime Minister Hun Manet underscored that peace is the "lifeline" for Cambodia, providing a "golden opportunity" to rebuild and reconstruct the nation, promote poverty reduction, develop socio-economic infrastructure, and deepen integration into the region and the world. He concluded by stating that peace enables Cambodia to concentrate resources on development across all sectors, allowing it to play an active and responsible role in international affairs.
