Australian Man Allegedly Kills Two Children, Then Himself in Bali

A shocking incident has occurred in Bali, Indonesia, where an Australian national is believed to have killed his two young children, aged 6 and 4, before taking his own life. The news has sent waves of disbelief among those who knew him. Local media reports identify the man as Damien John Shaw, 56, who was found dead along with his children inside a villa. The children's mother was reportedly in Jakarta with her family at the time of the incident and was not present at the scene. According to ABC Australia, a long-time friend of Shaw, Tania Dagnall, expressed her shock, stating that she had noticed a significant change in his appearance when they met in Bali about three months prior. Dagnall described Shaw as having become "gaunt" and "very different" from the "burly man" she remembered. She unequivocally condemned his alleged actions, stating, "There is no justification for it; absolutely no justification for it, ever. It is horrific." Shaw, originally from Perth, had reportedly lived in Bali for decades after converting to Islam about seven years ago upon marrying his wife. Friends mentioned that after his conversion, he had given up alcohol and drugs. He previously worked as a seaman in the oil and gas industry and had recently retired from a "fly-in, fly-out" job to spend more time at home. Dagnall recalled Shaw as being actively involved in his children's lives, taking them to school and swimming practice, leading her to believe he was living an "ideal life" – retired in a beautiful place with his children. She expressed her inability to comprehend the tragedy. While Shaw reportedly owned properties in Perth and Japan, friends hinted at recent marital tensions in the months leading up to the incident. However, they remain bewildered by the horrific nature of the alleged crime. "I don't understand why he would do something so horrific. It's heartbreaking for us," Dagnall said.
