Kampong Cham Governor Distributes Aid to Flood Victims in Srey Santhor

In Srey Santhor district, Kampong Cham province, aid was distributed to residents affected by riverbank collapses. At a distribution ceremony held at Ruessei Sakk High School on the 19th, Governor Un Chan Da stated that 71 households were impacted, with 42 requiring relocation. Governor Un Chan Da emphasized that aid is always provided by higher authorities during disasters, noting that 23 affected families received provisions for their livelihoods. The district has experienced previous floods, with riverbank collapses occurring in Kanh Andet, Ruessei Sakk, and Prek Pou communes. Meanwhile, in Knar Sa and Svay Pou communes, approximately 500 hectares of rice fields were saved through irrigation systems and rainfall. The riverbank collapse in the Ruessei Sakk area is attributed to the natural expansion of an island in the middle of the river, causing the current to directly impact residential areas. The collapsed sections in Kanh Andet and Ruessei Sakk communes span 1200 meters and are slated for repair by engineering units during the low-water season. Uuk Sinnon, a 79-year-old village chief from Kanh Andet village, recounted how the riverbank, previously over 300 meters from his 30-year-old wooden house, had encroached due to the natural disaster, forcing him to relocate 700 meters away.
