PM Urges Development, Security in Visit to Newly Established Subdistrict

Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone visited Toumlane Subdistrict on July 24 as part of the government's initiative to bolster newly established administrative divisions. The delegation was welcomed by provincial and district leaders during the visit. Toumlane Subdistrict encompasses 12 villages and is home to over 12,300 residents, most of whom depend on agriculture for their income. The area also holds significant tourism potential, featuring natural attractions and sites of traditional Katang cultural importance. Local authorities have finalized the appointment of administrative personnel and operationalized a One-Stop Service Centre aimed at improving public services. During his address to local officials, Prime Minister Sonexay stressed the critical need to combat social issues, illegal logging, forest destruction, and illicit mining activities. He also underscored the importance of enhancing disaster preparedness and raising public awareness regarding criminal acts. Furthermore, he urged for intensified efforts to decrease school dropout rates, improve healthcare accessibility and quality, expand telecommunications infrastructure, and promote agricultural and livestock production leveraging local advantages to reduce poverty. The Prime Minister encouraged the adoption of systematic community planning and continuous professional development for subdistrict officials to enhance governance and the efficacy of service delivery. Concluding his visit, the Prime Minister presented financial aid to the district and subdistrict. He also toured a Katang weaving cooperative and inspected the Souphanouvong Bridge and Road, a vital transportation artery connecting Toumlane District with the provincial capital of Saravane. Laos, a one-party state, continues to navigate its path toward economic development and improved citizen welfare. Its strategic partnerships, especially with China and Vietnam, remain pivotal for securing economic assistance and advancing infrastructure projects.
