Vietnam-Slovakia Economic Cooperation: 3rd Intergovernmental Committee Meeting Held

Vietnam and Slovakia held their third intergovernmental committee meeting on economic cooperation, agreeing to further deepen bilateral collaboration. The Vietnamese side emphasized that the country can serve as a bridge for Slovak businesses looking to access the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) market. Conversely, the Slovak delegation highlighted that with its favorable location, logistics infrastructure, and access to the EU market, Slovakia can assist Vietnamese enterprises in expanding their operations in Europe. This cooperative relationship has entered a new phase since both nations established a strategic partnership in 2023. Vietnam continues to enhance its strategic importance within the growing ASEAN region, while Slovakia aims to expand its economic presence within the EU. The intergovernmental committee meeting served as a platform to explore concrete cooperation measures leveraging each nation's strengths. Vietnam, under its one-party system, has achieved remarkable economic growth since its economic reforms (Doi Moi policy), particularly in manufacturing and exports. In recent years, while maintaining strong economic ties with China, Vietnam has become an attractive destination for foreign companies seeking supply chain diversification. Strengthening ties with Slovakia holds significant importance for Vietnam in establishing a foothold in the European market and advancing its economic diversification. Beyond economic cooperation, cultural exchanges between the two countries are also becoming more active. "Vietnam Day" is scheduled to be held in Slovakia in 2023, which is expected to foster mutual understanding through the promotion of Vietnamese culture.
