Cambodia Boosts Workplace Harassment Prevention with Joint Training by TAFTAC and Ministry of Labour

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, in collaboration with the Textile, Apparel, Footwear and Travel Goods Association of Cambodia (TAFTAC), organized a training workshop on "Promoting Awareness on Prevention and Suppression of Violence and Harassment in the Workplace" on the morning of September 1, 2026, at TAFTAC. The training, held from September 1 to 4, 2026, saw the participation of approximately 3900 representatives from enterprises, companies, and factories. Its objective is to enhance understanding of the rights and obligations of all stakeholders and promote the creation of a safe, dignified, and mutually respectful work environment. Speaking to the attendees, H.E. Nguon Rith, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, emphasized the importance of imparting and raising awareness of rights and obligations among all stakeholders. This is particularly crucial for administrative staff, translators, human resource managers, production chiefs, and company and factory leaders, to jointly prevent and suppress inappropriate behavior and words in the workplace. H.E. Nguon Rith stated that the prevention and suppression of these activities must be implemented in accordance with the national legal framework and international labor standards. The focus is on protecting every individual in the world of work from physical, psychological, sexual, and economic violence and harassment, as well as gender-based violence and harassment. He noted that although these issues have been significantly reduced, some cases continue to occur and can lead to labor disputes, strikes, or protests, impacting professional relationships, production, and the reputation of enterprises. In this regard, H.E. Nguon Rith urged all parties to cooperate with the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training to jointly improve working conditions and the work environment, transforming each enterprise into a peaceful community. H.E. Nguon Rith encouraged all owners or directors of enterprises, companies, and factories to instruct their management teams and production chiefs, especially those who work directly with employees, to strictly adhere to respecting labor rights, dignity, and human value. They must also strictly prohibit and prevent all forms of insults, threats, violence, and harassment in the workplace. Concurrently, the Ministry also appealed to all workers to adhere to labor discipline, fulfill their duties, respect the rights and dignity of others, and report any inappropriate behavior or words they witness or experience at work to labor inspectors or competent authorities. H.E. Nguon Rith instructed labor inspectors to continue strengthening inspections and taking firm measures based on the principles of justice, transparency, and impartiality. Source: AKP Khmer
