The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has established a Legal Committee and held its inaugural meeting in preparation for the 6th mandate Commune/Sangkat Council election in 2027. The committee will be responsible for legal support and mediation during the election campaign.
The Cambodian People's Party (CPP) is advancing its preparations for the upcoming 6th mandate Commune/Sangkat Council election, scheduled for 2027. The party's Takeo provincial branch held its inaugural meeting of the Legal Committee on July 18, initiating the establishment of a legal support framework for the election campaign. Presiding over the meeting was Mr. Chhay Borin, a member of the provincial committee and chairman of the Legal and Electoral Procedures Committee. Key discussions included the dissemination of Decision No. 252/26 (dated May 27, 2026) on the overall plan towards the election, and Decision No. 253/26 (dated May 27, 2026) on the establishment of the election campaign command committee. Also announced was Decision No. 001/26 (dated June 29, 2026), detailing the division of responsibilities among members of the Legal Committee, lawyers, and the secretariat team. According to these decisions, members of the Legal Committee, lawyers, and the secretariat team will undertake tasks to defend the legal aspects for the Cambodian People's Party Takeo provincial branch in their election campaigns across various districts and cities, aiming to ensure success in the upcoming polls. A total of 29 participants, including 2 women, attended this inaugural meeting. This initiative highlights the importance of party organization and legal preparedness in Cambodia's local elections. The CPP has maintained a dominant political position in the country for many years, and local elections serve as crucial opportunities to strengthen its organizational base and sustain influence at the grassroots level. Effective handling of legal issues during the campaign period is essential for ensuring the fairness and legitimacy of the election results.
