Cambodian Health Minister Attends ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting for a Healthier ASEAN

Under the high approval of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, H.E. Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, led a delegation from the Ministry of Health to participate in the 17th ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting and related meetings held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The meeting, themed "A Healthy ASEAN: Joint Steps Towards Equitable Health Systems and Preparedness for the Future," runs from September 7 to 11. The ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting includes several key sessions: ASEAN+3 Health Ministers Meeting, ASEAN-People's Republic of China Health Ministers Meeting, ASEAN-Republic of Korea Health Ministers Meeting, ASEAN-United States Health Ministers Meeting, and ASEAN-Japan Health Ministers Meeting. These sessions, coordinated by the ASEAN Secretariat from September 9 to 11, 2026, involve health ministers from all 11 ASEAN member states, along with their counterparts from China, South Korea, and the United States, the Director of the WHO Western Pacific Region, and directors from various development partner organizations. The primary objective of the meeting is to achieve the 2045 ASEAN Community Vision for good health, ensuring sustainability and resilience. This involves enhancing living standards, responding to emerging disasters and threats, strengthening health systems, ensuring access to healthcare, and guaranteeing food safety. Key efforts include reinforcing ASEAN's health cooperation to support ASEAN integration and community building, reviewing and adopting important health-related documents, and discussing and approving joint statements from the various ministerial meetings. Reports and recommendations will also be presented to the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council. In his capacity as Minister of Health, H.E. Professor Chheang Ra will deliver interventions on key topics, highlighting Cambodia's significant achievements in the health sector and its priority health plans towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
