Vietnam Conducts Training for Flood and Typhoon Control to Strengthen Infrastructure
A technical training session for specialized forces in flood and typhoon control was held in Quang Tri province, central Vietnam. This initiative aims to ensure the safety of the nation's infrastructure, particularly its dike system, in response to increasingly frequent extreme weather events.
On the morning of July 30, in Dong Hoi city, Quang Tri province, the Directorate for Water Resources Management and Disaster Prevention (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) organized a training session on dike maintenance and flood and typhoon control techniques. The training targeted specialized forces responsible for managing dikes from level III to special levels. This initiative is a crucial step in strengthening the nation's infrastructure, particularly its dike system, in light of the impacts of recent extreme weather events. Quang Tri province has experienced recurrent damage from floods and typhoons in the past, highlighting the vulnerability of its infrastructure. The current training aims to enhance response capabilities against such natural disasters and minimize damage. Participants are expected to acquire the latest techniques and knowledge to ensure swift and accurate responses during actual disaster situations. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has prioritized ensuring the safety of the dike system, especially ahead of the typhoon season. Furthermore, it has instructed Hanoi to promptly address any dike anomalies and thoroughly implement flood control measures. Training on administrative violation processing within the dike and disaster prevention sector is also being conducted to bolster management systems and ensure legal compliance. Vietnam has achieved significant economic growth over the years. However, a large portion of its territory lies in low-lying and coastal areas, making it highly susceptible to the impacts of climate change. In particular, the increasing frequency of super typhoons and prolonged heavy rainfall has caused severe damage to agricultural production and infrastructure. This training is part of ongoing efforts to develop infrastructure that supports sustainable development in the face of these challenges.
