Cambodia, Philippines Commend Progress in Bilateral Cooperation
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and the outgoing Philippine Ambassador to Cambodia met on July 2, commending the steady progress in bilateral cooperation. Both sides expressed confidence in further deepening ties across various sectors, ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.
AKP Phnom Penh, July 02, 2026 -- Cambodia and the Philippines have highly valued the steady progress in their bilateral relations and expressed confidence in further deepening cooperation across various sectors ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year. The assessment was made during a farewell meeting on the afternoon of July 2 between Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Ms. Flerida Ann Camille P. Mayo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Philippines to Cambodia, whose diplomatic mission is coming to an end. During the meeting at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, Ambassador Mayo congratulated Cambodia on its achievements and development across all sectors and expressed satisfaction with the advancement of Cambodia-Philippines relations to a new level. She highly appreciated the close cooperation between the two countries in areas including economy and trade, education, vocational training, agriculture, culture, defence, and security. The outgoing diplomat also commended the Royal Government of Cambodia for its decisive measures to combat online scam operations and praised the strong cooperation between the two countries, particularly between their relevant institutions, in addressing the issue. Looking ahead to 2027, which marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and the Philippines, Ambassador Mayo said the milestone presents an important opportunity for both nations to further strengthen their partnership. She also reaffirmed that the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), led by the Philippines, would continue to carry out its mission with transparency and neutrality. In response, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet congratulated Ambassador Mayo on the successful completion of her diplomatic mission in Cambodia and highly valued her contributions to strengthening and expanding bilateral ties and cooperation. The Prime Minister noted that Cambodia and the Philippines still have significant opportunities and potential to deepen cooperation further, particularly in agriculture and tourism. Samdech Thipadei also praised the Philippines' role as ASEAN Chair in helping facilitate efforts to address the Cambodia-Thailand border issue and briefed the Ambassador on recent developments along the border.
