Cambodia Successfully Hosts ASEAN Civil Service Meeting; Indonesia to Take Over Chairmanship

Cambodia has concluded its chairmanship of the ASEAN Cooperation on Civil Service Matters (ACCSM) after successfully hosting the 23rd meeting in Siem Reap, with Indonesia set to take over as the next host of the ASEAN Public Service Ministers’ Meeting. Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many, Minister of Civil Service, said Cambodia’s tenure came during a transitional period as ASEAN completed its 2021–2025 ACCSM Work Plan and prepared new priorities for 2026–2030 under the ASEAN Community Vision 2045. “Under Cambodia’s coordination, ASEAN member states reviewed the outcomes of projects implemented under the 2021–2025 Work Plan and developed the ACCSM and ACCSM+3 Work Plans for 2026–2030,” Hun Many told reporters after the Senior Officials Meeting on Aug 5. ASEAN members announced that Indonesia will host the next ASEAN Public Service Ministers’ Meeting, adopting the theme “Adaptive Public Servant for Better Service Delivery.” Indonesia will convene the Senior Officials Meeting in Yogyakarta in April 2027, followed by the ministerial meeting in Bali from Aug 22–24, 2028. Hun Many said Cambodia’s coordination ensured shared ownership among member states, practical implementation and stronger mechanisms for monitoring and accountability. During its chairmanship, Cambodia promoted the theme “Innovation for Better Public Service Delivery” and initiated work on an ASEAN Declaration to advance innovation in public service. Officials said Cambodia’s role as chair reflected its contribution to strengthening ASEAN cooperation and building closer ties with ASEAN Plus Three partners. Hosting the meeting in Siem Reap also showcased the province’s potential as a venue for international events while supporting local economic activity.
