Australia Pledges AUD 3 Million to Strengthen Cambodia's Social Protection System

The Minister for International Development of Australia, Dr. Anne Aly, has concluded her visit to Cambodia, announcing an additional AUD 3 million to strengthen the country's social protection system. This funding aims to support Cambodia in responding to economic pressures that are disproportionately affecting its most vulnerable citizens. According to a press release from the Australian Embassy in Cambodia on August 3, 2026, Australia is supporting food security, economic resilience, and environmental sustainability across the Mekong region, including Cambodia. Additionally, Dr. Aly announced AUD 9 million for the new phase of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) "Fish Ladder Technology" program. During her visit, Dr. Aly also inspected ongoing development programs, including initiatives focused on building economic resilience, supporting gender equality and disability inclusion, and promoting trade and investment cooperation. She also met with Australia Awards alumni and Australian volunteers, highlighting how these initiatives contribute to robust development outcomes and foster closer people-to-people ties.
