VP Sara leads in hypothetical 2028 matchup vs Leni – poll

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte remains the most preferred candidate for president in 2028, even in a hypothetical matchup with her predecessor and incumbent Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, a survey conducted by Pulse Asia showed. The June 28 to July 6 survey found that 52 percent of the respondents would support Duterte in a one-on-one hypothetical matchup with Robredo. Thirty-nine percent said they would support the Naga City mayor, while eight percent were either undecided or would support neither of the two personalities. Duterte has already declared her intent to run for higher office, while Robredo said she prefers to remain as Naga’s chief executive. The latest Pulse Asia survey also included other possible matchups, including a three-way race among Duterte, Robredo and Sen. Raffy Tulfo. In that scenario, 51 percent said they would vote for Duterte, 27 percent for Robredo and 16 percent for Tulfo. Pulse Asia also asked respondents whom they would vote between Duterte and Sen. Risa Hontiveros, with the Vice President leading the senator, 60 percent against 21 percent. In all other two-way or three-way matchup scenarios, support for Duterte did not drop below 50 percent, with over 90 percent of respondents from her bailiwick Mindanao saying they would vote for her. In a long list that included Duterte, Robredo, Tulfo, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority general-manager Nicolas Torre, the Vice President also emerged as the most preferred candidate for president with 49 percent of support. Robredo obtained the support of 26 percent, followed by Tulfo with 14 percent and the rest one percent or below. Pulse Asia said its Ulat ng Bayan surveys were conducted independently “without any party singularly commissioning the research effort.” The survey had 2,400 respondents and a margin of error of plus/minus two percent.
