Son Kim Aris Sends Thank You Letter to Chinese Communist Party for Wishing Daw Aung San Suu Kyi a Happy 81st Birthday

Yangon, July 3 Kim Aris, son of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, has sent a thank you letter to the International Department of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for sending birthday wishes for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's 81st birthday, according to a statement released by Kim Aris via social media. Kim Aris sent the thank you letter to the Chinese Ambassador in London. It is understood that the letter was written in response to the Chinese Communist Party's birthday wishes for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's good health on her 81st birthday. China is a major neighboring country involved in Myanmar's political crisis, and during the NLD government's tenure, relations between the government led by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the Chinese Communist Party were good, with reciprocal state-level visits between the leaders of the two countries. However, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been detained and imprisoned since the military coup in February 2021, and has not been able to contact the outside world to this day. Therefore, domestic and international human rights organizations and family members continue to express concern about her health condition. Currently, the military council claims that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is in good health, but has rejected ASEAN's request for a meeting and has not allowed meetings with independent external organizations or family members. Kim Aris has stated that he has not been able to contact his mother at all, either by phone or in person, for over five years. He has reiterated his demand to the military council to confirm that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is alive with credible and independent evidence. Furthermore, Kim Aris is continuously carrying out advocacy activities through the international community, human rights organizations, and world media for the swift release of his mother, adequate healthcare within the prison, and the resurgence of democracy in Myanmar.
