TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol — More than 35 tons of trash were collected from coastal areas across Central Visayas on Saturday during the 41st International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), highlighting the continuing problem of marine debris in the region. Initial figures released by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Central Visayas (DENR-7) at 4 p.m. showed that thousands of volunteers participated in the cleanup, gathering plastic waste, styrofoam, and other household garbage. The ICC is an annual event aimed at raising awareness about marine pollution and encouraging individuals and communities to take action to protect marine ecosystems. The Philippines is consistently ranked among the top contributors to marine debris globally, with plastic pollution being a major concern.
