Palace hints at 'earth shaking' announcement in Marcos' 2026 SONA

The Presidential Palace has hinted that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. might deliver an "earth-shaking announcement" during his upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27. Presidential Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro told reporters that Marcos is expected to deliver something significant, stating, "It’s always been like that." She confirmed that the administration's accomplishments would definitely be part of the speech, but urged the public to "just wait and see what the President has to say" until Monday. Castro revealed that President Marcos himself is writing his speech, which is currently in its final review stages and is expected to be completed by Sunday. She stated that she cannot disclose the contents as she has not yet seen or heard the speech herself. When asked about potential updates on flood control investigations and forthcoming cases, Castro advised, "Whatever the President will say in the SONA, it would be better if we just listen to it on Monday." She added that cases have already been filed against many contractors, with others potentially facing charges if sufficient evidence emerges. Castro also remained tight-lipped about whether the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte would be mentioned by the Chief Executive, stating, "It’s not being discussed, but we will most likely see the content of his speech on Sunday."
