Dr. Hou Kuntha, President of the Cambodian Association for Journalistic Professional Development, has issued a strong warning regarding the dangers of fake news and the misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI), emphasizing the potential for social unrest and legal repercussions. He urged journalists to strictly adhere to professional ethics. During a consultation meeting on challenges in the information sector held on the afternoon of September 9, 2026, at the Bayon Kalmet Restaurant in Phnom Penh, Dr. Hou Kuntha clearly highlighted the severe impact of "fake news" and the incorrect use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), which can cause social turmoil and insecurity. He cited past examples where AI-generated fake videos or audio related to international war situations and politics caused public misunderstanding and panic. To avoid falling into the trap of fake news, he stressed that the public and journalists should verify and follow information from five official and reliable sources: * The official Facebook page of the Prime Minister (Samdech Techo) * The official Facebook page of the Senate President (Samdech Thipadei) * The official Facebook page of the Ministry of National Defense * The official Facebook page of the Ministry of Information * The official Facebook page of HE Net Phakthra While issuing warnings, Dr. Hou Kuntha also acknowledged that AI can be an excellent assistant for journalists' minds and administrative work if used correctly, such as in research, work planning, or converting audio to text for meeting minutes. The President of the Cambodian Association for Journalistic Professional Development also reminded editors and all journalists to exercise extreme caution during live broadcasts and when using language on social media.
