Vietnam's Growing Cinema Market Attracts International Attention

Vietnam's film industry is attracting growing international attention, buoyed by government policies promoting cultural industries and advancements in technology. Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association and Director of DANAFF IV, stated that Politburo's Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, and Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW on the development of Vietnamese culture have created a solid foundation for advancing cultural industries and a creative economic sector, and strengthening IP protection, opening up new opportunities for Vietnam's film sector. Beyond policy support, Vietnamese cinema is deepening international collaborations. Films like "The Last Bullet" resonate internationally by depicting the perseverance, discipline, coach-athlete bond, and personal sacrifices behind an Olympic shooting champion's historic achievement. Moreover, works such as "Beyond the Broken Bridge" aim to bring stories of Vietnamese living abroad closer to international audiences while contributing to cinematic and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and Europe. Furthermore, Vietnam's cultural heritage and regional characteristics are being showcased through international events. The waterways and handicrafts made from coconut leaves of the Mekong Delta vividly portray the distinctive character of Vietnam's southern region, attracting visitors to host provinces like Khanh Hoa, which is establishing its image as a safe and attractive destination. Domestically, a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology is advancing, with efforts to preserve intergenerational values while embracing technological progress. Museums are rethinking how heritage is preserved, presented, and experienced, utilizing 3D displays, virtual tours, and AI assistants, with technology opening new avenues for the public to connect with the past. Vietnam's role on the international stage is also expanding. The UN General Assembly's adoption of a resolution on the International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development (2027–2036) reflects Vietnam's proactive stance in multilateral forums. The UNESCO Director-General has expressed gratitude to Vietnam for promoting this initiative. These developments suggest Vietnam's ambition to enhance not only its economic growth but also its cultural richness and international influence.
