Military convoy sailing up the Chindwin River attacked with landmines, continues to advance using reconnaissance aircraft and drones

A military convoy of the National Unity Government's forces sailing up the Chindwin River was ambushed with landmines and is continuing to advance up the river today using reconnaissance aircraft and drones, according to local sources and People's Defence Forces. The convoy, consisting of 42 vessels and having departed from Mandalay, was attacked with 13 landmines by the Kani People's Defence Force "Doung Generation" in Shwe Say We, Kani Township. The attack took place on July 6, but the detailed extent of damage to the military convoy is not yet known. Following the attack, the military vessels reportedly fired heavy weapons indiscriminately along both banks of the Chindwin River. "Two attack warships and 26 flatboats are currently advancing. There are also reconnaissance aircraft circling overhead," a local source told the Irrawaddy Times. According to river monitoring reports, some vessels from the convoy, which sustained some damage from the attack, reached near Oo Ma Village via Kani Township on the afternoon of July 7 and are continuing to advance upstream. Currently, the military is anxiously advancing upstream only after securing safety from the air using reconnaissance aircraft and drones, fearing attacks along the river. As the military convoy advances, local villagers living on both banks of the river are also watching with military vigilance.
