Cambodia and Thailand to Hold First UNCLOS Conciliation Commission Meeting in Singapore

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia has announced that Cambodia and Thailand will jointly hold the first meeting of the Conciliation Commission under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in Singapore. The meeting is scheduled to take place from September 14 to 16, 2026. The opening ceremony is set for Tuesday, September 15, at 8:00 AM Cambodian time (9:00 AM Singapore time). Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn will deliver the opening address on behalf of Cambodia. This event will be broadcast live to the public in Khmer, English, and Thai. Cambodia's National Television (TVK) will begin live coverage from Singapore at 7:30 AM Cambodian time (8:30 AM Singapore time). Other television stations and media outlets are expected to retransmit the broadcast from TVK. On the morning of September 13, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn, in his capacity as Cambodia's agent, led the Cambodian delegation and legal team to participate in the inaugural meeting of the Conciliation Commission. The establishment of this Conciliation Commission is seen as part of diplomatic efforts to resolve long-standing issues between Cambodia and Thailand concerning maritime matters, particularly the delimitation of Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) and continental shelves. UNCLOS is a comprehensive treaty that establishes a legal order for the seas and oceans and includes dispute resolution mechanisms among parties.
