SANTIAGO CITY, ISABELA, Philippines — Seventeen individuals were rescued after an outrigger boat, the MB Geri An, capsized off Dalupiri Island in Magsidel, Calayan town, Cagayan on Saturday afternoon, September 5. According to Jeo Robert Arirao, the Calayan municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer, the boat had departed from the port in Claveria town in the morning, bound for Calayan. However, the vessel was struck by strong waves, causing it to take on water and eventually capsize. Crew members successfully sent radio distress signals to the coast guard and disaster responders. A rescue operation was immediately launched, with responders utilizing the boat MB Claricel to reach the scene and assist in pulling the wrecked vessel. All passengers and crew members were safely rescued. Upon arrival at the port, the rescued individuals underwent medical check-ups and were cleared to return home.
