‘Bantay Kalikasan’ drive nets 490 arrests in Western Visayas

LOILO CITY — Authorities arrested nearly 500 individuals and confiscated over P27.3 million worth of illegal catch, timber, and equipment during a month-long environmental crackdown across Western Visayas in August, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO6) reported. According to the consolidated accomplishment report released by PRO6, a total of 490 individuals were taken into custody for alleged violations of environmental laws. The confiscated items included illegal catch, timber, and fishing gear, with the total value reaching P27.3 million. The crackdown, dubbed 'Bantay Kalikasan' (Nature Watch), aimed to combat illegal exploitation of natural resources and enhance the protection of ecosystems in the region.
