Cambodia Seeks Scholarships for Students in AI Field Through Partnership with Korean University

The Cambodian Embassy in South Korea has discussed the possibility of cooperation with Jeju Halla University regarding scholarship provisions for Cambodian students. This initiative specifically aims to foster talent with expertise in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). On September 2, 2026, Cambodian Ambassador to South Korea, H.E. Keoun Ponnatana, met with Dr. JUN Yongwook, Vice President of Jeju Halla University, at the Cambodian Embassy in Seoul. Jeju Halla University, a private institution established in 1969, offers advanced programs primarily in social sciences, with a focus on integrating AI into curriculum such as media management, design industry, IT, drones, and architecture. Dr. JUN conveyed the university''s interest in collaborating with a Cambodian university to provide scholarship opportunities for financially disadvantaged Cambodian students. These scholarships would enable them to pursue higher education in AI accounting programs, adhering to Korean standards and aligning with international job market demands. Ambassador Keoun expressed his support for the proposal and invited Dr. JUN to visit Cambodia to discuss with Cambodian ministries and educational institutions. The embassy stands ready to facilitate these meetings. Furthermore, the Ambassador requested the university to explore the feasibility of offering scholarships to Cambodian students who have completed their studies in Korea and to members of the Cambodian community in Korea wishing to pursue further higher education at Jeju Halla University. This discussion highlights Cambodia's commitment to deepening its cooperation with South Korea, particularly in the development of human resources in advanced technology sectors.
