Bali Running Event Sparks Controversy Over Alleged Exclusion of Indonesian Nationals

A running event in Bali, allegedly exclusive to foreign participants, has sparked controversy on social media over suspicions of excluding Indonesian nationals (WNI). The event, held in the Canggu area of Kuta Utara, Badung Regency, has drawn criticism after screenshots of conversations indicating selection based on nationality circulated online. One individual claiming to be an Indonesian national reportedly faced rejection, while another claiming German nationality had their participation accepted, according to the leaked screenshots. This has led to accusations of discrimination and protests from netizens questioning the alleged nationality-based restrictions. Beyond the participation issue, concerns have also been raised regarding the event's permits. Netizens have questioned whether the event, which reportedly utilized public roads and spaces, obtained the necessary permissions. I Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara, head of the Badung Regency Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), stated that the agency had not been contacted by the event organizers. He emphasized that any activity utilizing public facilities requires proper permits, and the use of public roads for events that disrupt other users must receive recommendations or attention from the relevant authorities. Suryanegara added that the Satpol PP is currently coordinating with the legal department to consult on the regulations governing such activities. As of now, the agency has not received any contact or issued any recommendations for this event.
