Vietnam Communist Party Expels 5 Officials Over Corruption and Rule Violations

The Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam's Central Committee convened to review disciplinary actions against party members who have violated regulations, ultimately deciding to expel five high-ranking officials from the Party. Following a review of the Central Inspection Committee's proposal for disciplinary measures against party members in violation, the Secretariat concluded that the implicated individuals had shown degeneration in their political ideology, morality, and lifestyle. The decision highlighted that these officials had contravened Party regulations, state laws, and the code of conduct for party members. Furthermore, their failure to uphold their exemplary responsibilities had led to severe consequences, fostering public discontent and significantly damaging the reputation of the Party organizations, localities, agencies, and units to which they belonged. The five officials facing expulsion from the Party are: Hoang Trung, a member of the Party Committee's Standing Committee and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development; Duong Thanh Trung, formerly the Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee of Bac Lieu (now part of Ca Mau province); Do Truong Giang, formerly a member of the Provincial Party Committee Executive Board and Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Lao Cai province; Nguyen The Minh, formerly a member of the Provincial Party Committee Executive Board, Secretary of the Party Committee of Binh Lieu commune, and Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union of Quang Ninh; and Nguyen Phuong Thao, formerly a member of the Provincial Party Committee Executive Board and Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union of Quang Ninh. The Secretariat's decision to expel these individuals was based on the nature, severity, consequences, and causes of their violations, in accordance with the Party's established disciplinary regulations. The committee also urged relevant administrative bodies to implement disciplinary actions in a timely and coordinated manner, aligning with the Party's disciplinary measures. This action reflects the Communist Party of Vietnam's continued emphasis on internal discipline and its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, especially among officials. Despite Vietnam's remarkable economic ascent, the party's leadership has consistently addressed instances of misconduct to maintain public trust and the integrity of the political system.
