Vietnam Begins New School Year: Officials Attend Opening Ceremonies Nationwide

Vietnam commenced its 2026-2027 academic year on September 5th, with opening ceremonies held across the country, highlighting the nation's focus on education. Politburo member and head of the Central Propaganda Department, Trịnh Văn Quyết, attended the opening ceremony at the Thanh Thủy Primary and Secondary Boarding School in Tuyên Quang province. This participation underscores the Party and state leadership's emphasis on the education sector. He delivered encouraging remarks to students and staff for the new academic year. Nationwide, opening ceremonies were conducted with unified formats, many featuring flag-raising and drum beats to mark the start of the school year. This approach aims to foster a sense of unity and shared purpose in welcoming the new term. Education is considered a cornerstone of national development in Vietnam, with the government continuously working to reform the education system and improve its quality. In recent years, with economic growth, nurturing human capital for international competitiveness has become a pressing priority. Under the one-party system, educational policies tend to be implemented uniformly under the guidance of the central government. Furthermore, while Vietnam deepens economic ties with China, it also navigates sensitive issues such as territorial disputes. Educational cooperation and talent exchange are considered crucial strategies within this complex relationship to maximize Vietnam's national interests. This year's opening ceremonies also served to demonstrate the provision of equal educational opportunities for children, even in border and mountainous regions.
