Nearly 400,000 suspicious phone numbers blocked as abnormal SMS senders by June 30

It is known that approximately 400,000 suspicious phone numbers, identified as engaging in abnormal SMS transmissions, have been completely blocked as of June 30. The Ministry responded in this manner to inquiries from some media outlets asking how the ministry is preventing and addressing SMS transmissions from gambling games using various phone numbers through officially licensed telecommunications operators, and how many SIM cards used for sending gambling SMS have been blocked. In relation to the above question, it is understood that SMS transmissions from gambling games are considered abnormal SMS transmissions if the same text messages from a single phone number are distributed to 60 phone numbers within one hour, or distributed to 1,000 phone numbers within 24 hours. With this designation, such phone numbers are being blocked and managed through an automatic blocking system (Automatic Blocking Direction) within the SMS firewall of the respective operator's system. It was stated that as of June 30, 2026, 390,978 suspicious phone numbers have been permanently blocked, and that if there are any phone numbers to report, they can be reported to the Directorate of Posts and Telecommunications at [email protected].
