New Road to Ease Traffic Congestion in Phnom Penh Ahead of Pchum Ben Festival

A new road, designated R4, connecting the Boeung Kak area to Monivong Boulevard in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, has reached approximately 80% completion and is anticipated to be open for passage before the upcoming Pchum Ben festival. This conclusion follows a site inspection by Deputy Prime Minister, Say Sam Al, on September 5th. The new R4 road is expected to help reduce traffic congestion on two major boulevards, Monivong Boulevard and Russian Federation Boulevard, which currently experience heavy traffic and congestion, particularly during peak commuting hours. Upon completion, the R4 road will provide travelers with an alternative route from Kroudan 2 intersection, through the Boeung Kak area, passing by the mosque and Hotel Phnom Penh, and directly onto Monivong Boulevard towards the Chroy Changvar Bridge, allowing for faster travel. This new connecting road is part of a master plan for urban planning and development aimed at increasing urban resilience and responding to the continuous growth in population and vehicles.
