Thai Industry Urges Government to Boost Energy Efficiency Amid Volatile Oil Prices

The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has urged the government to further strengthen domestic energy efficiency measures as a response to the sharp fluctuations in crude oil prices. The industrial sector has expressed concerns about the impact of rising energy costs on business operations, recognizing that improving energy consumption efficiency is crucial for sustainable economic activity. FTI points out that amidst increasing uncertainty in the international energy market, accelerating the diversification of energy sources, promoting the adoption of renewable energy, and reducing waste in existing energy consumption to drive more efficient utilization are urgent tasks for maintaining and enhancing the competitiveness of Thai industries. Specifically, support for the introduction of energy-saving technologies in the manufacturing sector and measures to improve fuel efficiency in the logistics sector are likely to be called for. This proposal highlights the structural challenge of the Thai economy being sensitive to fluctuations in crude oil prices. The specific suggestions from the industrial sector will provide important insights into the future direction of Thailand's energy policy.
