Thai Corporates Expand Investment and Strategy in Infrastructure, Semiconductors, and Energy
Thailand's Amata Corporation is set to benefit from infrastructure investment amid expansion plans by a Foxconn subsidiary. Delta Electronics is boosting its business through capital raising, while PTT Exploration and Production strengthens energy supply with an extended stake in a Malaysia-Thailand joint development area.
Three major Thai corporations – Amata Corporation, Delta Electronics (Thailand), and PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP) – are making significant moves in infrastructure development, electronics manufacturing, and the energy sector, respectively. These developments are seen as crucial indicators for Thailand's economic recovery and growth. Amata Corporation develops and operates industrial estates in Thailand and Vietnam. The company generates stable cash flow through land sales to manufacturers, as well as utility services, rental factories, and joint ventures in power and water businesses. A notable development is the announcement by Foxsemicon, a subsidiary of Taiwan's major semiconductor manufacturing equipment component maker Foxconn, of its Phase 2 investment plans in Thailand for 2026-2028. This investment, worth up to Bt8.2 billion, is set to accelerate production expansion at plants located within Amata's industrial estates in Chonburi and Rayong provinces. This signals that the 'China Plus One' strategy, while taking longer than initially anticipated by financial markets, is steadily progressing. Delta Electronics (Thailand) manufactures power-electronics, thermal, and infrastructure products – including power supplies, DC fans, EV/powertrain components, data center and telecom power, and industrial automation – for global OEM customers from its plants in Thailand and overseas. The company holds the largest weighting in the electronics sector on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and is considered a high-beta proxy for AI and data center-related investments. Recently, its major shareholder, Delta Electronics International (Singapore), has reportedly been seeking to raise approximately Bt47-48 billion (US$1.5 billion) through zero-coupon exchangeable bonds. The proceeds are intended to strengthen working capital and support future business expansion, a corporate action that has been the subject of market speculation for weeks. PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP), Thailand's national oil and gas exploration and production company, produces oil and gas from blocks in the Gulf of Thailand and overseas (including Myanmar, Malaysia, Oman, and Algeria), offering a high dividend yield. PTTEP has been awarded the PSC for Block A-18-01 in the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area (MTJDA), securing its rights for continued exploration, development, and natural gas production for another 35 years. This extension supports long-term resource continuity and reinforces the strategic role of the MTJDA in the energy security of both Thailand and Malaysia. These corporate activities highlight expanding investments in Thailand's manufacturing sector, particularly in high-tech areas, and ongoing efforts to stabilize energy supply. They are key indicators to watch for the future trajectory of the Thai economy.
