MANILA, Philippines — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) reported stronger first-half earnings as its assets surpassed P2 trillion, underscoring the continued growth of the state pension fund for government workers. In a statement on Friday, GSIS said it netted P94.75 billion, up 28 percent from a year earlier. The figure already accounts for 72 percent of the agency’s full-year net income target of P130.91 billion. Total assets climbed to P2.05 trillion as of June 30, up P74.81 billion from P1.98 trillion at the end of 2025. Meanwhile, administrative expenses, including personnel and operating costs, amounted to P5.53 billion. Administrative loading—a measure of operating costs relative to revenues—stood at 2.55 percent, comfortably below the 12 percent ceiling set by law and extending GSIS’s streak of single-digit administrative loading. GSIS did not disclose its total expenditures. It said, however, that 94 centavos of every peso it spent in the first half went directly to claims and benefits for members, pensioners and their dependents. The pension fund also highlighted measures introduced to help members cope with the Middle East conflict and the resulting energy shock. It said it had disbursed P27.29 billion in microloans to more than 463,000 active government employees since launching its Ginhawa lending program. It has also released more than P1.7 billion to over 36,000 members for the purchase of bicycles and electric mobility vehicles to reduce commuting costs. Based on its latest actuarial study, GSIS said the fund remains financially sustainable through 2058. INQ
