Cambodia Forecasts Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds for Several Days, Affecting Lowlands, Highlands, and Coastal Areas

Cambodia is expected to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds across the country from September 3rd to 5th, due to the influence of two tropical depressions, Krovanh and Saudel. These systems are impacting the southwest monsoon blowing over the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, Cambodian Sea, and the Kingdom of Cambodia. However, Cambodia itself is not directly in the path of these storms. According to the Ministry of Water Resources, low-lying areas will see minimum temperatures of 25°C and maximums of 36°C, with southwesterly and northwesterly winds averaging 7 meters per second. Approximately 20% of these lowland areas, including provinces like Battambang, Poipet, and Siem Reap, could experience rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. In highland regions, minimum temperatures will be 24°C and maximums 35°C, with southwesterly and westerly winds averaging 8 meters per second. These areas, covering up to 40% of the highlands and including provinces such as Oudong Meanchey, Preah Vihear, and Kratie, have the highest probability of thunderstorms and strong gusts. Coastal areas will experience minimum temperatures of 25°C and maximums of 34°C, with southwesterly and southeasterly winds averaging 10 meters per second. About 30% of coastal regions, including Koh Kong, Sihanoukville, and Kampot, are forecast to have thunderstorms and gusty winds.
