Kampong Thom, Cambodia -- On the morning of September 9, 2026, Major General Som Son, Commander of the Kampong Thom Operational Zone, Military Region 4, led colleagues to deliver fuel, food, and essential supplies as donations from Prime Minister Samdech Maha Bovor Thipadei Hun Manet and his wife, Dr. Pich Chandmony. The aid was delivered through Lieutenant General Mao Sophan, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Army, who also heads the government working group for Sandan District. The donations were presented to the commune authorities and ferry operators in Dang Kambat Commune, Sandan District, Kampong Thom Province, who transport residents and students across the Sen River. Major General Som Son stated that in the past, Prime Minister Hun Manet, through Kampong Thom Provincial Governor H.E. Nuon Pharath, provided one ferry and fuel, facilitated by Lieutenant General Mao Sophan, for transporting citizens and students across the Sen River during the rainy season. This service has ensured safety and has been in operation for over two years during the monsoon. On this occasion, Major General Som Son handed over an additional 300 liters of fuel for use in September 2026. Food and essential supplies were also given to the three ferry operators, with each receiving 25 kilograms of rice, one case of instant noodles, two bottles of fish sauce and soy sauce, and one box of canned fish. Additionally, 12 civil defense officials each received one box of canned fish. Major General Som Son urged the ferry operators and local commune authorities to take good care of the provided ferry to ensure its longevity. He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing the safety of citizens and students traveling across the Sen River during this rainy season. Mr. Lun Yen, Chairman of the Commune Council, representing the ferry operators and residents who use the crossing, expressed his profound gratitude to Prime Minister Hun Manet and his wife, via Lieutenant General Mao Sophan, for their continuous attention and support. He acknowledged that the provision of ferries and fuel has enabled the safe transportation of people and students across the Sen River in Dang Kambat Commune, Sandan District, Kampong Thom Province, especially during the rainy season. He concluded by offering blessings for good health and prosperity to the Prime Minister, his wife, and the head of the working group. Information Source: AKP Khmer
