Cambodia to Adopt Chinese Vocational Standards to Enhance Skills and Attract Investment
Cambodian labor unions view the adoption of Chinese vocational standards as a significant step towards enhancing human resources and skilled labor, aiming to attract more investors and boost international competitiveness.
Cambodian labor unions have hailed the acquisition of national vocational standards from the People's Republic of China as a significant step for Cambodia in enhancing the quality of human resources, developing professional skills, and fostering a skilled workforce that aligns with international standards. This move is expected to position Cambodia as a more attractive hub for investors. Mr. Sam Soeun, President of the Cambodian National Labor Union Federation, stated that the national standards from China will enable Cambodia to possess international-level technical and vocational education standards. This initiative is particularly beneficial for providing vocational training to citizens, including former workers returning from Thailand. "Cambodia can strengthen skill development and training to be better than before, in line with international standards and the regulations of China, which is rapidly developing. To date, we can say that China is a leading country in driving development," he said. Mr. Pao Sina, President of the Coalition of Cambodian Unions Movement (CUMW), also remarked that obtaining these national standards from China is the best thing for Cambodia to gain additional specialized skills, enhance knowledge, and acquire precise technical skills that meet international standards. This will make Cambodia a significant investment destination. He added, "If Cambodia becomes a country full of skills and energy, it will be a part of attracting investment, especially in competing with our partner countries." It is noted that the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training received a set of Chinese national vocational standards covering 16 specialized fields during the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BYD Company. The objective is to enhance skills training, create quality human resources, and prepare the workforce to respond to the demands of new industries, particularly in the electric vehicle and advanced technology sectors.
