Online Scam Hub Raided in Phnom Penh, Foreign National Arrested
An online scam hub suspected of operating from a house in Phnom Penh was raided, leading to the arrest of one foreign national and the confiscation of numerous pieces of evidence. The operation is part of efforts to combat cybercrime in the city.
An operation targeting a suspected online scam hub in Phnom Penh's Russey Keo district has resulted in the arrest of one foreign national and the confiscation of numerous pieces of evidence. The operation took place on September 20th in Touk Sangke 1 commune, Russey Keo district. The Russey Keo district administration is conducting crackdown and cleanup operations against technology-based online scams (Online Scams) to strengthen security and safety for citizens. According to Chin Bunthoeun, Governor of Russey Keo district, following strict orders from Khoung Sreng, Chairman of the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration Command Committee, the district administration, in cooperation with relevant forces, conducted an inspection of a house suspected of being involved in online scams. As a result, authorities discovered multiple mobile phones and computers, and arrested one foreign national at the location, a shophouse in Touk Sangke 1 commune. Currently, the arrested foreign national and the seized evidence have been sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Headquarters for further legal proceedings. Source: Kampuchea Thmey Security
