Vietnamese Journalism Eyes New Frontiers in AI Era, Exploring Opportunities in 'Revolutionary Reporting'

Vietnam's journalism sector is actively seeking new development opportunities as technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), rapidly advances. This theme was central to the 8th Editors-in-Chief Forum held in Quang Ninh city on September 25, themed "Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism - Opportunities in a New Development Space." The forum also addressed the future of human resource development for Vietnamese journalism. The Academy of Journalism and Communication was urged to take a leading role in applying technology, especially AI, in journalism and communication training. This reflects an understanding that while AI can enhance information generation and analysis, its impact on reporting quality and ethics must also be considered. The Ho Chi Minh City Television, Radio, and Newspaper Agency is expected to become a core force on the ideological and cultural front. This highlights the crucial role of media, guided by the Communist Party of Vietnam, in shaping public opinion. Furthermore, the application of AI in journalism management, both within Vietnam and internationally, was a significant topic. AI can be a powerful tool to streamline content creation, editing, and distribution processes. However, the accuracy of AI-generated information and the importance of human sensibility and ethical judgment in reporting were re-emphasized. Participants stressed that in the AI era, journalism must uphold truth, earn reader trust, and maintain its humanity. The key challenge for Vietnamese journalism is how to maximize the technological benefits of AI while preserving and developing its core principles of truth, trust, and humanity.
