Phnom Penh Clears Blocked Drainage Systems on Major Roads

Phnom Penh authorities have successfully cleared blockages in three major drainage channels along the Russian Federation Boulevard and Street 113k, which were found to be severely obstructed by garbage. The operation was carried out by the Municipal Department of Public Works and Transport in collaboration with the administrations of Po Sen Chey and Sen Sok districts. The cleanup initiative, which took place from September 14th to 20th, 2026, involved dredging drainage systems, widening manholes, removing waste, and clearing canals along the railway and the Tuol Sampov canal. Ek Khun Doeun, Deputy Governor of Phnom Penh, and Sam Piseth, Director of the Municipal Department of Public Works and Transport, personally inspected the work, following the directives of Phnom Penh Governor Kuong Sreng. Officials reported that in addition to the three blockages in the main drainage system on Russian Federation Boulevard and Street 113k, three more obstructions were found in the Chhuk Orleuk canal, and along the railway canal in Tang Krasang. All these issues have now been resolved. The city administration is urging residents to cooperate in preventing garbage from being dumped into drainage systems and canals. They also encourage citizens to help clear debris from drain entrances during the rainy season to mitigate flooding on Russian Federation Boulevard.
