Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Ministers Engage with Local Communities
Vietnam's Minister of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang, and his Laotian counterpart, General Khamliang Outhakaysone, engaged with local residents in the border area of Nghe An province. The interaction, involving traditional dances and games, aimed to strengthen defense cooperation and community ties between the two nations.
At the Thanh Thuy border gate in Kim Bang commune, Nghe An province, Vietnam's Minister of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang (also Deputy Prime Minister), and Laos' Minister of National Defense, General Khamliang Outhakaysone (also Deputy Prime Minister), participated in an exchange event with local residents. The defense ministers of both countries, along with the delegation from the Laotian Ministry of National Defense, received a warm welcome from the border residents of Nghe An province. Subsequently, they immersed themselves in the local culture, enjoying Vietnam's traditional "nhay sap" (bamboo pole dancing) and Laos' traditional "Lamvong" dance. General Khamliang Outhakaysone also tried his hand at the "nem con" game, a traditional activity of the Thai ethnic group. The two generals further bonded with local residents through a game of playing with iron balls. The delegations also visited the Thanh Thuy Border Guard Station, where they watched martial arts performances by the border guards. This station manages a border of 13.748 km and six national border markers. As part of the event, the representatives from both countries presented breeding cattle to residents from the two border communes, Kim Bang and Son Lam, who are facing economic hardship. The Vietnam-Laos Border Defense Friendship Exchange, held on July 9-10 in Nghe An province (Vietnam) and Bolikhamxay province (Laos), is the third of its kind.
