Concrete Bridge and Road Inaugurated in Kandal Province, Cambodia

A concrete bridge and road leading to Koh Chamroeun Island in Kandal Province have been officially inaugurated and put into use, coinciding with the 74th birthday of Hun Sen, President of the Senate and President of the Supreme Privy Council to the King. The inauguration ceremony was held on August 5, 2026. During the ceremony, Kouch Chamroeun, Governor of Kandal Province, stated that the newly inaugurated achievements were initiated by Hun Sen, former Prime Minister and current President of the Senate. This project was undertaken following a tragic ferry sinking incident last year that resulted in the deaths of 11 students. Governor Kouch Chamroeun conveyed Hun Sen's condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the accident. He emphasized that these historical achievements for the residents of Koh Chamroeun village in Kampong Phnum commune, Leuk Daek district, are a result of the high attention from the national leadership and the diligent efforts of authorities at all levels. He urged the public to respect traffic laws, drive responsibly, and avoid speeding. He also called for the preservation of these infrastructure assets for the benefit of all and stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness and environmental hygiene along the roads to make Koh Chamroeun a model village for sanitation and a good environment. Furthermore, with the approaching rainy season, the provincial governor appealed to the public to take care of their family members and exercise caution when traveling on waterways. Owners of ferries were instructed to prepare safety equipment such as life vests and flotation devices to aid in rescue operations in case of any incidents. Local authorities and relevant ministries are tasked with inspecting all ferry operators in Kandal Province to ensure they are equipped with adequate safety gear for public rescue. The concrete bridge to Koh Chamroeun measures 54 meters in length and 8 meters in width, with a 2-meter by 2-meter culvert spanning 12 meters. The reinforced concrete road is 300 meters long, 8 meters wide, and 0.2 meters thick. The project was initiated by Hun Sen and officially opened on August 5, 2026, under the auspices of Nu Sakhorn, Chairman of the Kandal Provincial Council, Kouch Chamroeun, Governor of Kandal Province, and Chao Sambath, Vice Chairman of the Royal Government Working Group for Leuk Daek District.
