Indonesia on High Alert for National Farmers' Day Protests in Jakarta

Jakarta, Indonesia - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police are implementing stringent security measures ahead of anticipated large-scale demonstrations on September 24, coinciding with National Farmers' Day. The police have formulated a comprehensive security plan aimed at respecting the rights of protesters while minimizing disruption to the daily lives of ordinary citizens. On Wednesday (September 23), the Head of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Inspector General Komjen Asep Edi Suheri, led a Tactical Floor Game (TFG) at Balai Sarbini in South Jakarta. This exercise was designed to unify perceptions and mature all security arrangements, from personnel deployment and crowd escort to traffic management, operational procedures, communication, and directed operational control. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police are also strengthening communication with field coordinators and continuously updating them on the progress of activities. This coordination is considered crucial for ensuring that the expression of aspirations proceeds in an orderly manner, while field personnel prioritize a humane, professional, and measured approach. Public mobility is also a key concern. The Traffic Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police will deploy 1,550 personnel in several key areas, including Semanggi, Sudirman, the UOB area, Senayan, the DPR/MPR RI complex, Patung Kuda (Horse Statue) Roundabout, and Monas (National Monument). Traffic diversions will be implemented situationally if there is increased congestion or road closures due to activities in various locations. Furthermore, the Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Grand Commissioner Kombes Budi Hermanto, stated that the police respect the public's right to express their opinions while ensuring that other members of the public can continue their activities. "We respect the space for the public to express their aspirations. At the same time, we want to ensure that people who work, go to school, or carry out their daily activities can do so safely and comfortably," he said. The police also urge the public traveling around the demonstration areas to adjust their travel times, pay attention to traffic information, consider alternative routes if necessary, and follow the directions of officers on the ground. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police hope that all activities on September 24 will proceed safely, orderly, and with mutual respect, allowing both the space for expressing aspirations and the daily activities of other citizens to coexist harmoniously.
