Hanoi to Complete Five Ring Road Projects by 2027

Hanoi is pushing forward with its ambitious plan to fully complete five ring road projects by 2027, a significant step in its urban development and transportation infrastructure enhancement. According to a recent report from the Hanoi Department of Construction, the Hoàng Cầu - Voi Phục section of Ring Road 1 and most segments of Ring Road 2.5 are slated for completion within 2026. Ring Road 1, spanning over 7 kilometers, is currently under construction for its Hoàng Cầu - Voi Phục section, approximately 2.3 kilometers long. This project, with a total investment exceeding VND 7.2 trillion (over $290 million USD), aims for full operational status and the completion of two flyover intersections by December 31, 2026. Ring Road 2.5, extending approximately 19.64 kilometers from the Ciputra New Urban Area to the Ring Road 3 interchange near Thanh Trì Bridge, will have a width of 40-50 meters. Divided into 13 sections, some parts are already finished, while others are in progress. These include the access road to the Tây Hồ Tây New Urban Area (nearly 600m), the Cầu Giấy - Dịch Vọng New Urban Area section (420m), the Dịch Vọng New Urban Area - Dương Đình Nghệ section, Vũ Phạm Hàm - Trần Duy Hưng section, and Ngụy Như Kon Tum - Nguyễn Trãi section (totaling about 2.26km). The Nguyễn Trãi - Đầm Hồng section (approx. 1.52km) and the Đầm Hồng - Quốc lộ 1A section (approx. 1.6km) are also progressing, with completion targeted within 2026. The underpass beneath Giải Phóng Street (460m) was completed by the end of March 2026. Ring Road 3, spanning 68 kilometers, is seeing ongoing construction on its remaining approximately 15 kilometers passing through Đông Anh district. This section is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2027. Ring Road 3.5, planned for over 45 kilometers, has the section from Thượng Cát Bridge to National Highway 32 (including Thượng Cát Bridge) under construction since October 2025, with completion targeted for 2027. An interchange project with Thăng Long Avenue commenced in April 2025 and is scheduled for completion in 2026. Additionally, several sections within Hoài Đức district are expected to achieve technical opening by August 2026. Ring Road 4 (Capital Region), a massive project covering approximately 113 kilometers across Hanoi, Hưng Yên, and Bắc Ninh provinces (with over 52 kilometers within Hanoi), has achieved 100% land acquisition in all three localities. Efforts are underway to relocate technical infrastructure and address outstanding land clearance issues, aiming for completion by August 2026. Parallel road projects within Hanoi have already reached 85% completion. The development of these ring road networks is anticipated to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in Hanoi, enhance logistics efficiency, and stimulate economic growth. The Vietnamese government considers infrastructure investment a key pillar of its economic development strategy, making these projects national priorities.
